Prince Bernard left the hospital today. Futher recovery will take place at palace Soestdijk. He expects to go on holiday this summer, to Porto Ercolo, and will undertake his duties after his holiday.
So far so good. I will keep this page available, but i suppose no updates about the illness of the prince will be necessary.

Prince Bernard left the intensive care and is now cared for in a medium care unit.

24 may 2000

According to the dutch newspaper "Gooi en Eemlander", a piece of the teeth of Prince Bernard was broken off, and entered his body. Then he was not able to breath anymore, so that caused the problems of last week. The part, that is discovered by x-ray is removed from his body, that is the reason that the prince's health is still improving.

22 may 2000

Again the situation is improved. The prince is breathing by himself. Still the medical staff said that a backfall is possible, but if the situation continues to go better, the prince may leave the intensive care during the next week.

19 may 2000

The situation is improved. The princesses Margriet and Irene left the hospital for a short sleep. The whole day his family came to visit the prince. Even Prince Claus visited his father in law.

Princess Juliana never came during the whole time.
The prince gets a lot of media attention. Every broadcasting company has an complete team outside the hospital.

18 may 2000

Prince Bernard is critical. During the evening, the RVD stated that the situation has suddenly seriously worsened.
In a short time all his daughter visited the Prince. Pieter van Vollenhove left during the evening, Queen Beatrix stayed the until 3:30 that night, and the princesses Margriet and Irene stayed the whole night.

16 may 2000

Prince Bernard is woken up, he responds to questions, he is even making jokes. Still the risk of a backfall is possible.

15 may 2000

The situation is improved. Prins Bernard is able to breathe by himself, but he is still kept sleeping. The neurological staff is investigating his progress

Prince Bernard has "neurological problems", called an 'cerebrovasculair accident' (CVA). It was not a stroke, but it was serious. He was in a coma. He was not able to breath by himself, but that was being done by machines.
Queen Beatrix visited

Most of his family visited him, Princess Christina came all the way from New York.

After meeting with war-veterans on 10 may, Prince Bernard is taken into Academic Hospital in Utrecht for a surgery on his intestine. In the morning it was said he had little problems with the narcose. He was placed at the intensive care unit. He should stay 14 days in the hospital
