UNITED GO SECOND
MARLOW
UNITED – 5 ETON WICK - 0
Marlow hit five goals
past bottom club Eton Wick at Wilks Park to ease themselves above Holyport and
into second place in the league.
Luckless Eton were
virtually swept away in the first fifteen minutes of the game as United
established an unassailable three goal lead, avenging their two dropped points
from the previous encounter which had resulted in the Berkshire side picking up
only their second point of the season.
The home team were
straight onto the front foot and took the lead in just 90 seconds.
Sciaraffa swept a cross
field pass to Matt Flint on the right. Flint played the ball into the area where
Lewis Brown beat keeper Howard to the ball to score from close range.
On six minutes United
doubled the lead with a Sciaraffa corner from the right met by Wiltshire who
slid the ball home from 8 yards.
United were indebted to
keeper Cooper who pulled of an excellent save to deny Eton in almost their first
foray into the home team’s territory.
Back came the home team
as Ollie Flint’s through ball found Sepede in space only for Howard to save
his shot.
It only delayed the
inevitable as a Buchanan corner was helped over the line by the luckless Eton
custodian to put Marlow three up on fifteen minutes.
Credit to the away side,
they must have had a feeling of deja vu having already tasted defeat in eighteen
of their previous twenty league games. They continued to attempt playing
football and the United defence had to be alert through out.
Although Marlow
continued to dominate proceedings they failed to add to their first half tally
with Pedley, Brown and Sciaraffa all having efforts either saved or shooting
wide.
In fact it was
full back Sciaraffa who came to the rescue of the home team, clearing off the
line after Cooper dropped the ball with the half coming to a close.
Half
Time 3-0
United began the second
period in the same fashion as the first. Wiltshire seeing his effort cleared of
the line following the first of six-second half corners.
Two further corners
resulted in Crawford missing two opportunities before Sepede broke through on
the right, his attempted cross to Brown being intercepted.
It really was one-way
traffic now as Eton tired and Marlow plied on the pressure.
Brown found himself free
on goal only to be ruled off side before Crawford’s header hit the bar from
yet another corner with the Eton defence scrambling the ball clear.
Moran shot wide in a
rare excursion into Marlow territory and Cooper collected a cross from Smith a
minute later.
Ryan Davis replaced
Sepede on sixty minutes and with his first touch of the ball he almost scored,
guiding Pedley’s cross wide of the goal.
Cuva replaced Brown on
sixty-three minutes as the pressure on the Eton goal mounted.
Cuva and Ollie Flint
both had chances to score before Dan Pedley finished of a three man move
involving Davis and Buchanan by shooting straight at Howard.
Middleton replaced Matt
Flint on seventy minutes and it was the sub who blocked a rare shot on the home
goal.
Marlow eventually
notched their fourth on eighty minutes, a ball down the line from Filmore
finding Cuva, his run taking him to the by line before crossing for Ollie Flint
to head home.
Three minutes later
Filmore’s free kick on the right was met by Gary Wiltshire who headed home
from eight yards to notch his second and Marlow’s fifth goal.
Flint and Davis
had further opportunities to increase the lead before the game ended.
Manager Kevin Carvell was delighted with an emphatic win “This result will set us up as we push for second place, something that I believe this team is capable of. Credit to Eton who never gave up despite being outplayed”
