 MARLOW MARCH ON !

Penn & Tylers Green – 0 Marlow United - 2

Marlow kept the pressure on Kintbury and Chalfont at the top of the league with a deserved 2-0 victory at Penn and Tylers Green.

Second half goals from debutant Jason Bowler and substitute James Flint finally saw of a spirited home team fight back after United had dominated the opening 45 minutes without scoring.

The home team began the game on a cold dreary afternoon kicking down the slope and forcing a corner in the first minute.

Dixon then crossed the ball for Hunt to fire over the United goal before Wiltshire and second United debutant Lewis Brown combined to release Bowler on the left, the wide man putting in the first of many excellent crosses.

Booth shot wide when well placed as Penn endeavoured too take advantage of the sloping pitch but it was the away team who were beginning to take control of the game with Mat Flint and Ben Filmore dominating the centre of the park and Brown, Wiltshire and Bowler stretching the home defence.

On 10 minutes Wiltshire fed Brown only for the Marlow forward to delay his shot. Five minutes later a Crawford free kick resulted in a corner with Brown heading wide

as United kept up the pressure.

Full backs Ollie Flint and Ian Green both pushed forward as the away side attempted too open the scoring and it was Green’s accurate pass that found Bowler. A swift exchange with Brown saw a cross which Wiltshire failed to convert. Next to try his luck was captain Tristan Heywood placing his effort wide from a free kick.

Marlow kept up the pressure with Wiltshire and Brown having attempts before Karl Lewis suddenly burst on the scene his shot from the left hitting the far post with Tinsley beaten.

Penn had the last word of the half as Goddard fired in a snap shot in a rare excursion into their opponents half.

Half Time 0-0

United looked to use the slope to their advantage in the second half and it was from a 48th minute Bowler corner that Wiltshire’s header was cleared off the goal line with the United forward’s premature celebrations being cut short.

That was the first of three successive corners as the away team piled on the pressure.

On 54 minutes Penn gained their first corner of the half and Allen was allowed too much space as he dangerously flicked the ball goal ward.

Sensing that they could snatch a lead the home side began to stretch Marlow’s defence and on 62 minutes Jamie Wright’s determined run saw him evade several tackles before a desperate lung in the area resulted in the Penn player being sent sprawling with the referee choosing too ignore the penalty appeals.

The game had now become more open and United began to exploit the gaps in the home teams defence but still they were unable to open the scoring.

As the game entered the final 20 minutes Marlow bought on James Flint for an unhappy Wiltshire and Vinnie Cuva for a subdued Karl Lewis.

The substitutions certainly had the desired effect with the pace of Cuva in particular unsettling the home defence.

On several occasions the speedy winger cut past his marker and  from one of those runs he fed the ball to Lewis Brown who turned the ball across the area where the lurking Bowler fired it past Tinsley to give United the lead on 79 minutes.

James Flint then embarked on a dangerous run firing wide after beating three defenders. A United corner was cleared before the away side sealed the win with the second goal, the dangerous Brown unselfishly laying the ball across the face of the goal allowing James Flint the opportunity guide the ball into the net.

With the evening gloom descending Ollie Flint had one last opportunity from a corner before the referee ended the proceedings.

Manager Kevin Carvell was delighted with the win” We showed great patience despite not scoring early and deserved the win. Just one goal conceded in 5 games speaks volumes for the whole team”
