DIVISION ONE EAST

FILMORE CRACKER SINKS LANE

RAYNERS LANE - 0 MARLOW UNITED - 3

United returned to winning ways handing Rayners Lane a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at Tithe Barn and moving into 5th place in the league in the process.

After last weeks FA Vase loss manager Kevin Carvell bought in Adam West and gave a debut to newly signed Karl Lewis to bolster the midfield with Ben Filmore slotting in at right back.

The move’s proved a success with those players contributing to a decisive victory for the Bucks side.

United began the game in a positive manner playing the ball around intelligently and accurately on what must be the best surface in the division.

The home side were left chasing shadows for much of the first half as Marlow established a two goal lead which with a little more accuracy in front of goal could have been doubled at half time.

As it was a brilliant strike from Filmore on 33 minutes sent United on their way followed by an equally impressive second from Sepede on 44 minutes.

For the home side the tall Lelo caused Tristan Heywood some early problems as the Marlow centre half struggled to cope with the height of the Rayners lane centre forward.

The Lane forced the first corner of the game when a poor back pass from Pedley led to Dean Prasol heading clear.

From the corner United counter attacked, Matt Flint’s pass releasing Sepede down the right who in turn gained a corner for Marlow which was headed over by Heywood.

The home team were then awarded a free kick on the edge of United’s area, Crawford being penalised for a trip, Hurst’s kick being gathered by Pollard in the United goal.

By now Marlow were in control of the game with Mat Flint and Dan Pedley dominating the midfield and supplying plenty of ball to both wide players West and Lewis. The latter had a particularly good first half his accurate crossing  causing problems for the Lane defenders.

Lewis headed a cross from Presol wide and a long ball from Heywood found Davis in the clear only to be ruled offside as United continued to press.

Pedley wasted a free kick on the edge of the area firing wide as the home team organised a wall and a minute later a Lewis cross found West unmarked in the box. The Marlow man delayed his shot, the loose ball arriving at the feet of Davis who was crowded out as he attempted a shot.

Lewis then fired across a free kick from the right which Grey in the home goal collected.

Rayners Lane won a free kick in a rare attack, Hurst’s kick being cleared by Pedley before Heywood broke from defence playing a one two with West on the left his shot gaining a corner after a deflection.

One minute later and United finally took the lead which their play had warranted.

A  Lewis corner on the right was played back across the area by West arriving at the feet of Filmore 25 yards from goal. The full back steadied himself before slamming an unstoppable shot past keeper Grey.

Almost from the kick off Sepede, Davis and Lewis combined the latter’s cross being collected by an overworked Grey.

Dan Pedley almost doubled the lead, collecting Prasol's pass he beat a defender and curled his shot across the face of the goal and just past the right post.

Not to be outdone midfield partner Mat Flint picked up a Sepede lay off and fired in  a curling effort from fully 35 yards which shaved the bar with Grey struggling a reach the ball.

Just as it appeared Marlow would have to settle for a one goal lead despite all their good play they scored a second. Mat Flint’s free kick found Lewis on the right, he whipped in a superb cross from the corner flag and Sepede volleyed home the second goal.

United began the second half as they finished the first, dominating possession. A free kick from the left by Pedley was headed wide by West before Mat Flint and Karl Lewis combined to set up Davis who shot wide.

Next it was Sepede breaking down the left. His cross failed to find two unmarked colleagues only for Filmore to pick up the clearance before having his shot blocked.

After these let off’s the home team began to exert some pressure of their own.

Full back Mitchell shot wide before Heywood was forced into a hurried clearance from Lelo.

Lane’s Murray became the first player in the referees book for to much back chat only for Filmore to quickly follow after a late challenge left the same player in a heap.

At this stage the home team were bossing the proceedings and had a penalty appeal turned down when Heywood appeared to handle in the area.

The turning point came after 67 minutes when Pedley carried the ball into the opposing area. As he attempted to round a defender he was tripped and Ryan Davis stepped up to score from the spot, his tenth goal of the season.

With the game effectively over manager Carvell bought on Rowley for a tiring West with Lewis being replaced by Cuva 3 minutes later.

The home team continued in their efforts to salvage something from the game Lelo bringing a fine near post save from Pollard.

Pedley was replaced by Steve Gabb as United contained Lane’s attacks, countering through  Cuva, his  pace catching out the home defence on several occasions.

The game ended with two corners by Rayners Lane being dealt with comfortably by the United defence.

“ A satisfactory result which will give the team confidence for two important league fixtures against Kintbury and Thame” was manager Kevin Carvell’s after match response.
