| Father's Day When Dad Is Missing There are some of us sadly with no dad to remember Father's Day, with not even enough to go on, to say we knew him, in any real way. Sometimes a father leaves us early, sometimes by choice, sometimes by accident, and we're left with little to remember, except perhaps, just how fast he went. And so often what is left behind, is a hole that is so deep and wide, that nothing you can haul in, can fill up the hole, so deep inside. For even with a ton of toys, of pleasures, of treasures, of love, that hole remains just as empty, a void you stay most conscious of. You simply learn to live with it, like others with missing parts do, and you try not to let the emptiness maim and cripple the rest of you. And if you're lucky and become a father, you give your kids what you never had, a father whose love they are sure of, someone they are glad to call their dad.. copyright 2001 Roland Ricker |
