God Answers a Little Sparrow

A little sparrow
stopped work one day,
He felt unhappy,
about himself in every way.

"Lord, why do I have
to be so small?
I want to be an eagle,
most of all.
And why am I
such a mousy brown?
I'd rather be a peacock,
strutting into town.
And what's important
about what I do?
I'd rather do something,
besides clean for You.
There's one last thing,
I want from You,
Can I trade me in
for something new?"

God answered
the sparrow loud and clear,
and He told him why
in his tiny ear.

"The work you do
means a lot to Me,
for you pick up things,
others don't see.
To do your work
all over town,
so you won't be disturbed,
I made you brown.
Your size is just right,
since sparrows are every place.
If sparrows were bigger,
they'd take up too much space.
But most important of all,
my heart was waiting just for you,
for only a sparrow
fits there quite the way you do."
