Lovers In A Midnight Masquerade

I hid behind a silver mask,
in a midnight masquerade.
And I stole kisses as we danced,
to a moonlight serenade.

I was a thief unknown to you,
a  stranger in the moonlight,
until my kisses were returned,
and we were lovers in the night.

Suddenly, we were two people
from another time and place.
me in  black tie and tails,
and you in a gown of silvered lace.

I swear I heard a waltz play,
as we swirled across the floor,
lost in a lovers' masquerade,
waltzing to forevermore.

Who we were then matters not,
two ghostly lovers from the past,
waltzing again in a masquerade,
hiding behind their silver masks.
