| MARLENE IN MOONLIT ICE AND SNOW I reached with mittened hand for Marlene in moonlit ice and snow, as we skated together, on that pond in Maine so long ago. With no music there but our own, we sang songs as we skated along. Happily, we enjoyed the laughs, and the fun of getting the lyrics wrong. We laughed and we sang, and we even landed on the ice. And in helping each other up, we kissed not once, but twice. In dreamland's snowy moonlit night, I often skate with lovely Marlene, Still lost in the beauty and the joy, and the wonder of being fourteen. copyright 2000 by Roland Ricker click for Selected Poems of Roland Ricker email me |
