My Best Kiss

I kissed you best
while you were fast asleep,
and my kiss was so softly placed,
you did not stir.

It was my one unselfish kiss,
not a kiss to bring me elsewhere,
nor to go with hello or goodbye,
nor  one to make or score a point with.

I had just stood there- so overwhelmed,
so touched by the lines of love
time had written on your face,
that I gave my kiss - and for once,
I asked for nothing in return.
