This frozen world has numbed me to all the tortured screams
You hurt me then and now cry for help
As I watch the flames creep ever closer
Wondering distantly if they can warm this icy heart
Whose depths have long since been lost
To any feeling beyond the aching loneliness kept caged within.

Licking heat holds the promise of release
But tamed into calm I can do nothing but inwardly sob
My tears matching yours in fear and pain
Yet who can say there is truly a difference between
Those that cry and those that give the reason?

And finally your whimpers quiet
I am left alone with the blood fed fire
Unable to take those last few steps toward the warmth of love
As the shadows chilly fingers slip unconciously deeper
into my soul
