Harris Family of Michigan

Heman Harris is the focus of our early family history. He was born in
Rutland Vermont in 1805. According to family legend, his parents were
Quakers, and his father was killed in the War of 1812.
After the War of 1812, Heman's family moved to New York. They lived in
the Ithica area for about 25 years. Heman was married there in 1820.
In the mid-1840's, the family moved west to Michigan. It appears Heman
was accompanied by at least one of his brothers, and perhaps other relatives.
They settled in southern Michigan, in Branch county. The homestead they
established near Bronson is now part of the city of Coldwater, and remains
in the family.
In the ensuing years, some family members moved south into Kansas, Missouri
and Oklahoma.
