Spiral object
On Sol 177, Spirit acquired this MI image of a target named "Bread Basket". One broken rock fragment exhibits a spiral structure on the end. I do not know of any mineralogical mechanism which could produce this, is it a fossil? If "Bread Basket" is similar in composition to "Pot of Gold", then the material is probably sulfate salts with some hematite, very similar to what was found by MER-B in Eagle Crater at Merdiani. If this object was found on earth, it would easily be categorized as a fossil of some kind of spiral shelled organism.
The NASA source MI image has been colorized, using color filter images aquired by the Pan Cam from this image, also acquired on Sol 177. The spiral object is barely visible near the center of the image.
