Legolas, a Sindarin elf, was the son of Thranduil. In 3019 of the Third age of Middle-Earth he travelled to Rivendell. He became one of the companions in the Fellowship of the Ring. He became best friends with Gimli son of Gloin in Lorien. When the Fellowship broke, he, Gimli, and Aragorn saught for Merry and Pippin. He was one of the Grey Company, and fought in the Pelennor Fields. While he was in the south, for the first time beheld the sea. And an Eldarin yearning for Eldamar was awaken in him. After the War of the Ring Legolas travelled with Gimli through Fangorn and Helm's Deep. They returned to Lorien, and after the death of Aragorn in 120 of the Fourth age of Middle-Earth they sailed over the sea.
