What are Verbs? |
Verbs are doing words, they tell us what is happening, what someone or something does and in what state or process someone or something is. This 'doer' is called subject. Some verbs indicate subject and time (tense), but some don't: a) finite verbs - show time and subject She was here. was = past tense Paul writes a letter. writes = he, Singular b) infinite verbs - do not show time or subject I want to go now. Some verbs are made up of one word, some are made up of more than one word: a) simple verbs - made up of one word My sister reads. b) compound word - made up of more than one words They are running. Verb tenses (active and passive): Simple (present, past, future) Continuous (present, past, future) Perfect (present, past, future) |
