"TV Q&A: Martin Milner Traded His 'Adam-12' Badge for Fishing Pole"

Q: Whatever became of Martin Milner, Kent McCord, and William Boyett of "Adam-12"? I haven't seen them since. It's also interesting to note that Boyett played officer Ken in the old "Highway Patrol" series in the late '50s.--Chuck Davis, Vashon Island. A: Officer Pete Malloy retired his badge and went fishing. Really.

Marty Milner, who starred as Officer Malloy in the series that ran from September of 1968 to August of 1975, is co-host of an enormously popular fishing talk show on Southern California radio. The call-in show "Let's Talk Hook-Up" airs from 6 to 8:00 am weekends on the top sports radio station in California, XTRA Sports 690 AM. It's also broadcast over the Internet for angling fanatics around the world.

Hard to believe it, but Milner is now 70 years old. He's been married for 41 years to wife Judy. They have four grown kids, two of whom made guest shots on "Adam-12."

Aside from his radio work, Milner did guest appearances on shows like "MacGyver" in 1985 and 1988. Along the way, he has reunited with his old partner Kent McCord on a few projects and appearances at "Adam-12" memorabilia shows. In 1989, the two teamed up for the first original film broadcast on cable's The Nashville Network. In "Nashville Beat," McCord played a Los Angeles police captain visiting a Nashville cop, played by Milner. The two also teamed up for guest appearances on "Diagnosis Murder" last year.

McCord, now 55, runs his own production company, "Buck Productions" out of Studio City, Calif. He works, appropriately enough, out of Suite A-12.

McCord, who played rookie cop Jim Reed, worked in some feature films after the series left the air. His film credits include such dubious titles as "Return of the Living Dead III" in 1993, and 1992's "Illicit Behavior." Tsk. Tsk. The straight-laced Jim Reed certainly wouldn't approve. Just this year, McCord was featured as a rear admiral in an episode of "JAG."

You're right about good old Capt. MacDonald, William Boyett.

Boyett was featured in various supporting roles on the old syndicated series, "Highway Patrol." That series ran from 1955-1959. Boyett has picked up the badge since "Adam-12," playing a character known as "Policeman" in an episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation." He's currently doing voice-over work in Hollywood.

By the way, did you know that McCord is an alias? Yup, Kent McCord was born Kent McWhirter, and that's how he's credited in his appearances as one of Ricky Nelson's frat pals on the old "Ozzie and Harriet."
