Prayer requests 11-10-02 (Martin) I arrived in Moyobamba on Monday evening (after finishing my time of orientation and language study in Lima), so am just beginning to get organised here. It has been excellent to meet up with old friends. On Tuesday there was a meeting of the Luke Society field team to decide the objectives for the work in the villages for the coming year (see photos). I would be very grateful for prayer for: 1) Plans for water projects – Praise God that DIGESA (the environmental health section of the Peruvian Ministry of Health) is seriously considering providing significant funding for a water supply project in the village of Nuevo Milagro. This is because DIGESA considers the village to be in a High Risk zone, and in urgent need of a permanent supply of clean water. Next week representatives from DIGESA will meet with village representatives and Luke Society representatives (Elias and myself) to discuss the project. Please pray for this meeting, and for concrete plans. Also for wisdom as to what role the Luke Society should play – possibly as coordinator between the village and DIGESA (who’s office is 4 hours away); and providing a source of funding for some of the materials. 2) Since DIGESA will probably be funding a project in Nuevo Milagro, the Luke Society will have more funds available for a water project in the village of Guillermo. Please pray for guidance and progress on plans for this project. Please pray that the Luke Society would be a powerful witness in these projects, demonstrating God’s love and truth. 3) Outreach in Moyobamba – On the 12th (yesterday?) the Presbyterian Church in Moyobamba (will have) distributed thousands of Spanish Good News bibles to homes in Moyobamba to celebrate the Church’s anniversary. Please pray that people would read the bibles, understand and receive God’s truth into their hearts; and also for follow up work. 4) Getting organised in Moyobamba – Praise God that I have found a house that I will be renting in an ideal location in Moyobamba. Please pray as I move in on Monday and get organised. Please also pray for my acclimatization. This week the temperature has been around 85 degrees F in the shade and over 90 degrees in the Sun! Finally, for confirmation of the Church that God is leading me to be involved in, and direction of in what ways to be involved in the Church’s ministry (perhaps in an outreach project in villages, involving a ‘mobile library’ to help villages get access to biblical materials and resources). Thank you for your prayers! Yours in Christ, Martin |
