Dear all,

I´m feeling more acclimatised here, and beginning to get used to travelling around Lima - although it´s such a huge city that it will probably take me 3 months to begin to get my bearings! Last Wednesday I moved from Chaclacayo to live in Surco, closer to the centre of Lima. I´m staying with a Christian family (Mary and Lucho and their 3 children), who are very friendly. They´re very used to having english visitors stay, and I´m able to watch the world cup on their cable tv!

I´ve also started languages classes in a catholic language centre, about 20 minutes away, every morning for two hours. It´s a group class, with 1 swiss student, 1 Dutch, 3 brazilians and myself, and a Peruvian teacher. I´ve been able to start in level 6, which suits me well (studying the spanish subjunctive). The classes also have a lot of chat (about football!), which is useful for getting my ears atunned again, and fun.

Yesterday evening I visited a Church in one of the Shanty towns (california), with Joanna, a Latin Link short-termer. The Church was planted by Margaret Sauderson, a latin link missionary, working with the people in the community. The community members are made up of people from all over peru, including the mountains, and jungle, and towns near Moyobamba. The service was very well attended, and they were very welcoming (I was asked to introduce myself at the front!)

I would be very grateful for your prayers as I go to immigrations later this week to apply for my residents card, accompanied by the mission´s secretary. Also for your prayers as its decided which Church I´ll be placed at - a Church in one of the Shanty towns (I´ll be visiting a different one next sunday).

Thankyou very much for your prayers, Yours in Christ,

Martin Bone
