Real Name: Fabian Stankowicz
First Appearance: Avengers 217
What's His Problem? An intuitive mechanical genius, Fabian won the state lottery and used his winnings to finance the creation of advanced weaponry with which he attacked the Avengers several times over. No one ever got hurt, and Fabian was never much of a threat despite his technical wizardry, but he did make quite the nuisance of himself before reforming.
Why Did He Attack the Avengers? I'll let Fabian himself explain that in this excerpt from an interview with David Letterman (Avengers 239):
Fabian: "Why? To prove it could be done! To show what one incredibly gifted individual can accomplish..."
Letterman: "To get your name in the papers?"
Fabian: "That too! After all, the Avengers have battled Zodiac...the Masters of Evil...Doctor Doom! I want to make as big a name for myself as those guys!"
Letterman: "Seems to me Stankowicz is already a pretty big name."

Abilities: Fabian is a uniquely inventive mechanical genius who has created such weapons as a mobile robot laser cannon disguised as a TV camera; heat-seeking hunter missiles equipped with lasers; a transforming gravity-powered steamroller; and a massive suit of battle armor in which Fabian called himself the Mechano-Marauder.
Favorite Quote: "By this time tomorrow, the name of Fabian Stankowicz will be a household word...worldwide!" (Avengers 239. The eternally hopeful Fabian, prior to his third and final assault on the Avengers.)
Heroes He Kept Running Into: The Avengers. Fabian has also been beaten by Spider-Man, Mockingbird and, yep, even David Letterman.
People Who Think He's Not So Bad: Believe it or not, The Avengers. Y'see, prison scared some sense into three-time loser Stankowicz, and he got his act together. Captain America, convinced that Fabian was more misguided than evil, stuck up for Fabian at his parole hearing and hired him for the Avengers' civilian staff as of Avengers 300. The grateful Fabian and Cap were good friends thereafter, and Fabian also became fairly palsy with co-workers Edwin Jarvis, Michael O'Brien, Peggy Carter and John Jameson.
Most Despicable Act: Fabian's major crimes include disrupting the Wasp's female Avengers membership drive tea party (the gals alternately beat on him and ignored him as they went about their business), trying to make a name for himself by besting the hospitalized Thing, and attacking the Avengers while they appeared on the David Letterman show.
