The Power element.... Ryu has some of the highest damage combos in the game. If you ever noticed, the ground Shinkuu Hadouken takes more damage than the one in the air. It was once thought that Ryu was the only one with an unblockable anti-air attack. Cable and Captain Commando seemed to have proved that an inaccurate assumption. As far as damage goes, Ryu doesn't quite measure up, but he's probably the most developed character in the game.
Best Assist: Projectile (Hadouken)
While battling a large opponent: Ryu has a lotta game, but all his moves seem to have their limits... His Fireball is too damn obvious and it's hard to use and connect. His Shoryuken is almost useless unless you use it in a combo. Finally, his Hurrican kick is easily countered if used on ground. Now if you wanna be good with Ryu, all you have to do is be patient, try to counter and if you try a Offensive stratagy you gotta use air attacks. With the big guys you're pretty much throwing projectiles all game and only in the air to jump into an attack or to evade with your Hurricane kick to give you a boost.
While battling a small opponents: You gotta constantly attack, the key to confuse a player who constantly blocks is simply giving them a reason to block. Keep a distance, and try not to do any moves that have lag time. If they just block and let their assist fight for them, get close with your Super Hurricane kick. If they still block, or counter the special, try doing air Super Hadouken attacks. You can play almost any distance, just don't get too close or you'll get thrown around often. The point of always attacking is to keep your opponent where you want em and getting a couple levels to pull a special move if they begin rushing you.
While battling an average opponent: Ryu is as average as they get, he is somewhat slow, but he has strong attacks, and his defence is good as long as you keep doing basic moves. You should be fine just try not to waste your specials and you gotta focus on countering your opponent, but you can fool them by throwing plenty of fireballs (that you expect them to dodge) then just time your basic hits. Strange how the basic punch and kick attacks are the most effective with Ryu, some things never change. |
