Iren Fyrd – Gerald (1)

Fernando, King by valor and wisdom
And Lyriel, Queen by her grace inspired
Greet all gentles from the Calon kingdom
The Iren Fyrd's presence They have required.

To the Iren Fyrd, We send______________
The Falcon Host standing firm in the fray
The Iren Fyrd, the army's fortress
The Falcon Host carries the day

The Iren Fyrd, Our wall against danger
The Falcon Host, Our friends at the feast
Surviving battle makes the Fyrd stronger
Conquering troubles gives to us Peace.

So say We, Fernando and Lyriel, from the Falcon Thrones.

Done by Our hands and seal this ___________day of _______________, A.S. XXXV, while seated in Our______________________________

Note:  Christine describes the Duke of Burgundy as having valor and wisdom in Christine's Vision, 1405, and the lines about surviving battle and conquering trouble are adapted from the same poem.  The second stanza is a reference to her ballad Seulement Suy (Alone am I), (1399) in which she repeats the same words for each line, except two, throughout the ballad. It's like a drumbeat, which I thought appropriate for a military award.s

Iren Fyrd - Gerald (2)

Who dares confide in Fortune's boon
          He is in truth decieved
Less constant is she than the moon
          As many have perceived
But We, Fernando, Calon King,
         And Lyriel, Our Queen,
Safer help may to bring
          The Iren Fyrd We mean.
If on these warriors We depend
Our safety is the Kingdom's need
Then the best unto these ranks We send
           Calontir, now take heed.
A worthy soldier is________________
          In Iren Fyrd We include
Our Foes depend on Fortune's wheel
We depend on better steel.

So say We, Fernando and Lyriel, from the Falcon Thrones set in Our ___________________________ on this ___________day of _______________, A.S. XXXV

Notes:  The first four lines are from Ballade XII of the Mutation of Fortune. Fortune is commonly depicted as a lady raising and lowering people on a wheel.

Boga Fyrd - Gerald

Who dares confide in Fortune's boon
          He is in truth decieved
Less constant is she than the moon
          As many have perceived
But We, Fernando, Calon King,
         And Lyriel, Our Queen,
Safer help to battle bring
          The Boga Fyrd We mean.
If upon these archers We depend
Our safety is the Kingdom's need
Then the best to these ranks We send
           Calontir, now take heed.
A worthy archer is________________
