Homework

There will be homework each night Monday through Thursday. Homework is a non-negotiable requirement of the First Grade curriculum. However, there are ways to make homework quick and fun! Homework should take no more than fifteen minutes an evening. Homework will consist of:
Math - Complete the work sheets that come home each night. Help your child find and correct any errors. Return the worksheet to class.
New Reading Words - Look for our new words that will come home with your child.Practice these words together.
Spelling Words - After the review lessons, Spelling lists will come home with your child every Monday afternoon. Please ensure that your child is ready for the Friday assesment by practicing the Spelling List together every night.
Little Books - Please watch for "Little Books" To arrive inside your child's folder and read them together often. Save the books to read to Grandma, Grandpa, Aunts, Uncles, and all your family friends!
The Keys to Making Homework Easy
Set a time and stick to it. Most first graders are tired when they arrive home from school. Your child may require a snack or a nap before he/she regains his/her engery. I suggest having your child address his/her homework as dinner is cooking.
Create a Special Homework Area. If a desk is not available, the kitchen table is a good place to spread out and do homework. Please have pencils, crayons, paper and erasers available for your child in his/her homework area.
Sit Together. Explain the directions to your child before he/she begins.Check his/her completed work for errors and correct them together.
Remeber to Return Homework. Please help your child remember to return the completed and corrected homework to his/her folder. Have your child zip the folder into his/her backpack so that it is not forgotten in the morning.
No Ifs, No Ands, No Buts! No Going Coconuts! All children are human and at times they are tempted to manipulate their way out of the resposiblity of completing their homework. Don't allow whining to control  homework time (or you)!
