I am a retiree from the United States Air Force since 1996. While in the military, my profession was an Aerospace Ground Equipment Mechanic. The last two years of my career I became an instructor for a computer system used in the Air Force to track equipment and personnel. When I retired I decided that I no longer was interested in this type of career. I did a drastic change that I have not regretted. After a few months of retirement I had an opportunity to care for some children during the day. My opinion is I got to play with children all day and got paid for it. I loved it. Since then I have received my certificate of completion for Early Childhood Childcare Development, Early Childhood Childcare Administration Level 1, first aid, CPR, North Carolina Childcare Credentials, fulfilled the requirements for the North Carolina Infant, Toddler and Family Associate and an Associate in Applied Science degree in Early Childhood. I recently enrolled, full time, at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke to pursue a degree in Birth through Kindergarten Education. I work part time, as a teacher’s assistant, at the Children’s Developmental Center in Raeford, N.C. This center has a 70% enrollment of special needs children, which I find very satisfying to work with. I plan to be a lead teacher there when I get my degree completed.

Writing is a way to communicate. It can be fun when allowed to be creative or it can be a headache when having to do a lot of research. In the long run, writing is a necessity. If papers are written correctly and in the proper format, it can get you a job or a promotion. While in school, writing can get you an A for a grade. Writing for entertainment can be for stories, news, and correspondence with family or friends. Writing can be done as if talking, music or poetry. To allow you to express yourself and be able to see what it is you feel. When done in music, it can be lyrically or musically. Writing, at the college level, is a challenge, compared to the children’s stories that I have enjoyed writing on occasion.

During this course, I would like to be able to improve my English communication skills. I want to be able to stop writing in bullet statements, which I have had to do for so long. I want to be able to learn and use the different types of structures that are in the English language. Finally, I want to be able to express feelings and beliefs in my writings.
