Mary spoke to the students as part of the Grammy Mentor Sessions,a nationwide program where recording artists speak to students as role models. She encouraged the students to stay in school and stay off drugs. She also spoke of the strength that her faith in God has brought her. She told the Marietta Daily Journal,"This is like the fourth school that I?ve done. Nobody is paying me to do this, this is the greatest reward. Right now,I?m a cool role model."
