THE CHURCH
While touring in Mexico,
I came upon a mountain dell,
And the weathered church that stood there
Had a story for to tell.
It's roof was made of lumber
That was getting old and worn.
As I gazed upon its weathered walls,
My heart was greatly torn.
The dilapidated building
Looked so lonely sitting there
And when my Savior spoke to me,
My soul filled with despair.
He told me of a Christian walk -
We must stay close to Him,
For if we wander from the path,
Sin and evil will sneak in.
The armour that He gives us,
Will weaken like the walls,
Satan will hold us in his grip
And try to steal our souls.
Greed and hate will fill our hearts
And pull us from His love.
We'll not be worthy of His care
Or a home in Heaven above.
Once more I gazed upon that church
And felt His presence there.
I felt Him take me by the hand,
His love once more to share.
And as I left that mountain dell,
The sun began to shine.
The healing touch of God's pure love
Again once more was mine.
