MASA Meeting  4:00 PM

I Call to Order:  The meeting was called to order by Amelia Fay at 16:00.  Kate Mossman, Sharon Pokotylo: that the minutes of the last meeting be adopted as presented on the MASA website.

II Vice-Presidents report: Amelia Fay reported that our President, Barb Hewitt is in Venezuela and Amelia will be presiding over the meeting.  She announced plans for the upcoming roundtable with Dr. Stymeist, the head of the department.  Victoria Woodward presented some of the concerns of the undergraduates that will be brought forth for the roundtable.

III Treasurers Report: Sharon Pokotylo reported that the chequing account has $1996.40 and the petty cash has $53.20.  The bake sale had a total cost of $42.90, and revenue of $201.70, for a total profit of $158.80.  MASA received $800.00 from the Arts Student Body Council for sponsorship of the students going to APALA, MASA will cover the costs of the cars to be rented.  Sharon reminded the APALA travelers to apply to SIGPAC for personal funding, and quickly went over the requirements.

II Business of the Day
APALA: A reminder to all students that the deadline for abstracts
past, it was December 31, 2003.  Everyone going should have already received conformation of enrollment.  Get your power point presentations ready so the disks can all be sent together before hand.  We want to send the disks by Friday January 23, 2004.  Anyone wanting to attend the conference as an observer can still go, but they need to confirm with Saskatoon on attendance. Everyone please confirm your space for the banquet.  Eight MASA members confirmed that they would go to Saskatoon in the MASA rented cars, six presenters and two observers.

CT Shay Scholarship Committee Representative (1graduate student who
is not applying): Due to complications, we need to reassign the student rep on the scholarship committee.  The two graduate students present, Adam Allentuck and Brian Barth, decided among them selves that Adam would be the better rep, due to his archaeological background.

MASA Journal: the deadline for MASA journal submissions is January
29, 2004 at midnight. Submissions are to use APA referencing style.  Please submit online to: masajournal@yahool.ca

T-Shirts: at the October meeting, the members expressed an interest  in getting MASA t-shirts.  Adam Allentuck looked into prices for the CAA conference, and we will use this information for pricing.  There is still an interest in getting t-shirts.  Brian Barth volunteered to design the shirts.

Visual Anthropology Group: Ginna Berg proposed a visual anthropology group as a collective under MASA.  Ginna's idea was inspired by the present writing group.  The group would include video, photography, and other forms of visual representation.  The MASA student body was very interested in the collective group.  Information for the first meeting is to be announced on the web page.

Valentine's Bake Sale: After the success of the Halloween Bake Sale, president Barb Hewitt expressed interest in a second bake sale.  The executive brought forth the suggestion of a second bake sale.  Victoria
Woodward asked why we need the extra money, and if the members going to the SAA's could be funded like the students attending APALA.  The executive present were not sure of the procedures for funding students, but had no problems funding students, if they applied.  Though, such decisions were put off until 1. A budget of the year could be finalized, and 2. The president could be consulted.
