3) Vice-President’s Report
-Heather was unable to make the meeting, however Diana reported on the lunch with Don Brothwell saying that everyone had a good time.

4) Secretary/Treasure’s Report
- $52 in membership fees have been collected since the first meeting however there are still some owing, those who are should pay as soon as possible by either giving the money to Barb or myself.
- The signing authority was changed over, however we were forced to change to a business account with rather large service fees.  Barb found out that Staples offers a no-fees business account that might suit our needs better.  We decided to discuss this further with the rest of the business of the day.
- I received applications for funding from the Alumni Association and the GSA (however I’ll need to go back to the GSA and get the correct application) and Barb spoke with James Kusie of UMSU for operating costs of the upcoming APALA conference.  We will send in the completed forms and hopefully receive some funding for the conference.

5) Social Director’s Report
- The first social event has been planned, the AADF to be held at the King’s Head Pub on October 11th at 8:30pm.  Kirsten has designed a poster and she asked for those interested in going to write their name down so she could make of attendees.
- Also planned for the fall is a car rally and Halloween party on November 1st.  We discussed whether it should be done by car or perhaps a pedestrian rally (if we cannot get enough cars).  Kirsten asked for help planning the rally, anyone interested should e-mail her.  A sign-up sheet for the car rally on barb's office door.
- January 18th will be the Welcome back potluck, the place is still yet to be determined, depending on the number of people attending (many have small places or still live with parents).

6) MASA Journal Editor’s Report

8) Business of the Day
- The Shay scholarship committee rep must be a grad student who is not interested in applying for the scholarship.  Kirsten Anderson volunteered to be the rep and was awarded the position.
- Changing the bank account to Bizsmart at Staples.  We discussed the benefits of having the account at Staples rather than CIBC (no service fees being the major issue).  The only problem with the account being that there cannot be more than one signing authority and all the banking is done with a bank card in the machine, over the phone or internet.  All were in favour of moving the account to Staples.  To deal with the signing authority issues Barb proposed that one person will keep the bank card and the other will have the pin number and signing authority.  The pin number would also be given to Roxie to keep in her files in case something should happen to the person with signing authority.  A vote was taken and it was decided that Barb would keep the card and Amelia (Amy) would have the pin number.
- APALA: Rooms have been booked for the conference in St, John’s College.  Barb questioned whether or not MASA should provide the lunch since the Daily Bread Café is right there, has good food and is affordable.  It was decided that we should provide lunch since that is the way it’s always been done and we do not want to look cheap.  The plans for lunch are still in the works, Pita Pit, Subway or maybe the food services.
Banquet: Heather has been looking into places for the banquet and will be meeting with Socrates from the Cork and Dock next week about a private room.
Guest Speaker: Barb asked if anyone had any ideas on who to have for a guest speaker, preferably someone locale to save money on hotel room.  A few suggestions were made.
Barb also asked for input on sponsors for door prizes and ideas for the workshops on Sunday.  Video ethnography was suggested.

- Barb asked if anyone was interested in developing/maintaining a web page, a few people suggested friends that could do it and they’d get it touch with them.

9) Other Business
- No other business

Meeting adjourned.
