3 Doors Down July 31st, 2003 @ The Pacific Amphitheatre |
|||||
I saw 3 Doors Down for the first time in concert on July 31st, 2003. They performed at the Pacific Amphitheatre, which is at the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa, California. I previously had never been to the Orange County Fair, let alone the amphitheatre. Upon entry to the venue, we weren't even frisked, so I could have brought in a camera! If I had only known before hand. When we found our section, in the back of the venue, security told me that we could move up if we wanted. My guess is that they knew they would have plenty of room for people to just sit anywhere they wanted, so we did! We sat in the front of our section, as close as we could get. We caught the end of Our Lady Peace's set. I wasn't interested in seeing them at all, so I'm glad we didn't have to sit through their songs. They finished and we wanted for them to set up for 3DD. Finally music and lights started up and everyone suddenly sat up! They opened with "Duck and Run." They stuck to the set list they have been going by for their current tour. They played all their hits thus far from both albums, including "Kryptonite," "Loser," "Be Like That," and "When I'm Gone." There was a good mix of songs from both their albums, also including "Changes," "Smack," "Away From the Sun," "Here Without You," etc. During the show I realized just how many of their songs even the casual fans would know because of massive airplay. They also did a new song called "It's Not Me," which sounded great! Before they went into the song, Brad told the audience that if we like the new song we cheer when it's over, if we don't like it then we don't cheer. But the audience seemed to really like judging from all the cheering. They also performed a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "That Smell." The older people in the crowd seemed to know this song pretty well, while the younger fans were clueless, like myself. These two songs were cool to hear! I really enjoyed this show! I had been wanting to see 3DD in concert for the past 3 years, but I kept missing their shows because of misfortunate coincidences. I definitely plan on seeing them whenever I can, though. Next time I'd like to be a lot closer to the stage because the band really seems to appreciate the audience. They shook hands and whatnot. After the rest of the band left the stage, Brad made sure he shook everyone's hand he could in the first row, and even signed someone's CD booklet. 3DD seems to genuinely appreciate their fans and the people who attend their shows. |
