| Def Leppard October 3rd, 2003 @ Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre |
||||||
| On October 3rd, 2003 I saw Def Leppard in concert for the second time at Irvine Meadows (Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre). The first time I saw them was my first concert ever, which was in August 1996 on the Slang tour at Irvine Meadows as well. So this time it was like I’ve come full circle. I had always intended on seeing them whenever they came to LA, but they didn’t for the Euphoria tour and I just couldn’t go when they played Universal at the start of this tour. As soon as I found out that this show was added to the tour I knew I had to go! I kept checking for tickets but I wanted to be really close, so I held out. I passed some decent tickets in hope for something better later on. The day of the show Ticketmaster was pulling up seats in the back, so I decided to go to the box office at the venue. I was extremely nervous driving all the way out there with no ticket. When I got there the guy said he had one ticket in Orchestra 2 left, so I snatched it up. It was in Row X, the last row of the section, but oh well. That’s better than a Loge seat, and definitely better than nothing! I drove to the venue with a friend from online, and we met up with a few of her friends. We all had seats all over the place. The opener was Ricky Warwick. He wasn’t bad, and his set was only about a half hour. Vivian joined him on guitar for one song. Finally Def Leppard hit the stage at about 8:20PM! They played all the usual favorites and the hits. It was especially cool to hear “Action” and “Let it Go” in the set. Def Leppard has a lot of “crowd” songs, and no matter how many times I’ve listened to them on CD, those songs are so much fun to hear live with a crowd! People were singing all night, well, at least to the lyrics that they knew and could understand. They only played two songs from X, which were “Four Letter Word” and “Now.” One song from Slang, the title track. People around me thought it was a new song. One song from Euphoria, “Promises.” During the show in 1996 before “2 Steps Behind,” Joe mentioned how the video was shot in LA. He did the same thing for this show as well. He also mentioned that Vivian lives about 5 minutes down the road. I was surprised to see such a full house! I didn’t see any empty seats around me, and there were people all the way to the back. It was fun seeing Def Leppard again with an active crowd! |
