Dear Radar, Son, I wish you’d told me sooner about the farm. I know a great man in Hannibal who can probably fix your problem. I’ll try and get him to see you soon. Congratulations you old son of a gun! When I first read about your engagement – I was jumping up and down for joy. Then I had to read it again to make sure. Congratulations again son. I do hope we make it home in time too. You’re not the only one to get hitched either – but I’ll let you hear about that one another way.
I spoke to Mildred the other day for about 20 minutes seems our Spring Fair also went good. She didn’t compete in the jams this year – she was judging. The general store manager’s wife Alice Hubble came first in both events. She and Mildred were always competing over it. But Mildred won more times so that’s why she’s judging this year. Sherrie has just lost her first tooth. She’s running around saying “Mommy when’s the tooth fairy coming?” So Jeannie tells her “Only on Thursday when you are asleep”. I remember the same with Cory and Evy too. You’ll love having kids and you’re going to be a great father too.
After reading your letter I had to let the gang read it and they all, yes-even Margaret, want to write you themselves. No doubt they’ll tell you who got married – though you can probably guess by the end of this.
Well it’s May 19th and all is finally quiet. After 17 hours of OR and 10 hours of sleep, everyone’s feeling better. You’re right; we do get a mass deluge during Peace-talks.
In other news, BJ also heard from Peg, spoke to her on the phone for an hour, Major Winchester is acknowledging that he isn’t God’s gift to medicine…about time, Father Mulcahy has been visiting the orphanage frequently, No Klinger hasn’t lost everything - He’s got the hang of the job and has been promoted and Hawkeye has moved out of the Swamp. So naturally he, BJ, Margaret and even Winchester have built a bar. The day after their opening night – there were no survivors. All were so drunk that no-one rose until 11 the next day. Thank God there wasn’t any casualties. In case you’re wondering they haven’t had a fight, Hawkeye just found a better roommate.
I’m off on R&R next week. Unfortunately because of Winchester’s griping, Margaret’s firm ‘NO’, Hawkeye’s ‘don’t even ask’ and BJ’s ‘pick on someone else’, I’ve got the three Musketeers and Dartanian in charge. So we’ll be having Charles and BJ at each other’s throats, with Hawkeye and Margaret at just plain each other before I’m back. They’re also organising some kind of talent show – or as Hawkeye calls it ‘No-Talent Show’. I don’t know what they’re doing – but I’m glad I am not there to clean it up and yell at the four of them for the mess they’ve created. Their practical jokes are getting too much for me and everyone else. They’re even involving Sophie too.
Well that’s about it for now Radar. Hope the farm picks up – I’ll ring that guy for you too. You and Patti have a great time. Give my love to your mother too. I just hope that I don’t have a heart attack created by one of those four maniacs and their pranks. The next time I talk to you – I hope it’s in person. I’ll speak to you soon.
Oh – before I forget, Major M. Pierce has a roommate!!! From your former colonel and friend
