MOCK PRESS RELEASE- February 3, 2002

From Somewhere in Central New Jersey---

       The first book from 19 year-old author Mike Ashmore is expected to be completed sometime in the next few months and many are anxiously awaiting it's release. Only a select few have been able to see a preview of the work, but all reviews have come back positive. Mike first started the project in February of 2000, and 2 years later he finds himself around 22,000 words short of his ultimate goal of 100,000. The book covers a wide variety of topics, as the tentative title of "My Best Effort to Offend Everyone" would indicate. So what was the inspiration for starting this project? We went straight to the source to find out.

      "Well, I basically had nothing better to do," Mike stated, "so I figured why not start writing a book. I'd read so many crappy books during my stay in middle school and high school-that I figured I'd might as well write something decent to sort of balance things out." As previously mentioned, the book covers a variety of topics-but the author also has plenty of stories to tell and an opinion on almost anything.

      "Sure, there's a lot of things that are in the book that, in retrospect, I wish weren't there. But, a lot of the stories that I don't want in there appear to be the funniest ones as well, so in order to maintain the comedic integrity of the book, they must remain intact. There's a lot of stuff about me in there I'd be better off not letting people know-but then again there is definitely a message I want to get across about how difficult it is being...well being me. Part of it has a 'life story' kind of feel to it, but there are also parts of it that are just like one big rant. I prefer the rants over the stories because I can just really go off on a certain group or person or character. It's just more fun than revealing something about yourself that you don't really want to," said Mike.

      The abrasive title of the book just lets you know right off the bat that a lot of people will probably end up getting pissed off...or as Mike says, "offended." Mike has an interesting view on that, "If I didn't make you laugh at least once, or piss you off or make you disagree with me...then I didn't really do my job. There has to be something in there that will probably gross you out, or make you want to cause severe physical harm to me. No, really...I've checked, there has to be something for everyone in this book."

      One of the knocks on the book, of the few that there are, is that it's a lot funnier if you actually know the author, Mike. Mike sounds confident that there won't be a problem feeling like you know him. "A lot of the regrettable life story portions of the book are included so you get a sense of knowing me. I agree that the book will probably mean more to you if you actually do know me...so if I can at least give a false sense of me being that person you see everyday, then I'll be more successful getting people into the story."

     Well, the anticipation awaiting the completion of the book is getting higher and higher all the time, even for Mike. "I can't wait for the book to finally be completed. I can't really say that writing and publishing a book has been a lifelong dream or anything, but ever since I started writing it-I knew that my ultimate goal would be to be able to entertain people on a wider scale by getting the book published. I've heard for a long time that I'm good at keeping people entertained...although that's not always a good thing, but I just want to give people a sense of what I can do by showing my talents in this book. I can't wait to show all the people who ever told me I couldn't do something that I did, indeed, do something. Even the people who still tell me this book will never even be published. They will be the first to know, I assure you, that the book is on the shelves. Deal with it."

     "My Best Effort to Offend Everyone" by Mike Ashmore is expected to be completed within the next 2 months and should be edited shortly after completion.
