Chapter 11
Pacey- Oh my God.
Joey- What the hell is he
doing here?
Pacey- God only knows.
Joey- C'mon, Pace. Lets leave. We
can go somewhere else and wait for him to leave.
Pacey- No, I can't do that.
Joey- Why not?
Pacey- Because, although I'm
positive he would never touch Bessie or Bodie, it's not fair to leave him here
for them to handle. That and, I can't keep running from him. I have to face up
to him some day. I knew this day would come. I just wasn't prepared for it.
Joey- Pace, we'll all be behind
you the whole way. We won't let him hurt you; I promise. But honestly, are you
sure you wanna do this?
Pacey- No, I don't want to.
However, yes, I'm sure that I have to. C'mon, lets go in.
Joey- Ok.
They both
entered the B&B, neither knowing what to expect. They were immediately met
by Bessie.
Bessie- Hi, guys. Pace, your
dad's in the other room. If you don't want to see him, I could tell him to
leave.
Pacey- No, Bessie, that's all
right. I guess a visit was inevitable.
Bessie- Ok, well sweetie he's in
the living room. If you need anything we'll be right in here.
Pacey- Ok, thanks Bess.
Pacey left to
go face his dad.
Bodie- Is he going to be ok?
Joey- I hope so. Look, I'm going
to just quietly stand outside the living room and make sure everything goes ok.
Bessie- Well Jo, they probably
need their privacy.
Joey- Trust me, they don't.
Bodie- Jo, how bad exactly, was
Paceys home life?
Joey- We can talk about all of
this later. Right now, I just have to make sure he stays ok.
And she left
to go check on things.
Pacey- What are you doing here?
John Witter- Is that any way to
greet your father?
Pacey- You're not my father.
Having the same blood doesn't make you my father. A father is someone who is
always there for his kids to love and support them. To make sure they're ok,
and happy. A father doesn't degrade and hit his children. Only a monster does.
John Witter- You've got a hell of
a nerve boy.
Pacey- Oh, I've got a hell of a
nerve? I think you're the one with the nerve. You come over and expect... what
exactly? Why did you come?
John Witter- Your mother wanted
me to come and check up on you. See how you were doing and when you were coming
home.
Pacey- Why didn't she come?
John Witter- She said she feels
to ashamed. The only reason I came was to shut her up. It's not like I care one
way or the other.
Pacey- Well, that's all very
noble of you but I'm just fine. Better then I've ever been so you can just
mossy on along now.
John Witter- I don't care if
you're not living in my house at the moment, but you will not presume to tell
me what to do. Are you gone permanently?
Pacey- Yes. I don't know if I'll
stay here or what but there is no way in hell I 'm ever returning to that
house. Not while you're still there.
John Witter- Well, I'd say we'll
miss you but.... why lie? Who would miss an ungrateful screw up like you?
Pacey- Thank you.
John Witter- Excuse me?
Pacey- Thank you for saying that.
You see, when I was younger I used to have this idea in my head that if I did
everything in my power to make you proud that you would love me. Then you would
say these incredibly mean things to me and it would
break my heart. I used to believe the things you used to say about me. But, I
just realized, I don't care at all anymore. You know why? Because I don't hold
any value to you. I don't care what you think of me, because you're just a miserable,
abusive,
drunk who will spend every day for the rest of your life unhappy. But now I
have people who actually care about me. People who think I'm not a screw up and
that I will be something great one day. I have people that I love, who return
that love, and
that is all I need. So take your drunken self and shove it.
John Witter- Oh you
son-of-a-bitch.
Bessie- Mr. Witter I believe your
time is up. Now with all due respect sir, get the hell out of my house.
John Witter- Sorry, Ms. Potter,
but I do not take orders.
By this time
Pacey, John Witter, Bodie, Bessie, and Joey were all in the living room.
Bodie- I'm not a violent man sir,
but remove yourself from our property or I will remove you, myself.
John Witter- Fine. None of you
are worth a damn anyhow.
Joey- Oh, and Mr. Witter?
John Witter- What?
Joey- Don't let the door hit you
in the ass on the way out.
And with that,
Mr. Witter left.
