Facts on Former MJCL State Officers


• 2000-2001 MJCL Treasurer
Juliette Vartikar is a graduate of Brookline HS.
She is currently a freshman at Yale University where she plays on the varsity tennis team.  Juliette is running for a position on her residential college's board of representatives to the Yale College Council.  This summer she is interning at the John Kerry for President Campaign.  Juliette leaves us with a quote "I love school and I can't wait to come back next year." (April 2003) 

 • 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 MJCL Technical Coordinator, Viet Luong is a graduate of Boston Latin Academy. Viet is a freshman at Boston University. As of now she is undecided about her major, but she knows that it is either going to be computer science and/or classics. Viet is a member of the Red Cross volunteers, MassSCL, and she has recently been accepted into the BU chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. (April 2003) 

• 1999-2000 MJCL Parliamentarian, Samantha Selig is a graduate of Tewksbury Memorial High School. Right now she is attending The New England Institute of Art and Communications in Brookline, Mass (formerly known as Massachusetts Communications College). Samantha is a double major in Audio Production and Television Broadcasting, ideally she wants to move to New York after graduation and work in either audio or video post-production. She considers herself to be obsessed with music, stars, coffee and laughing. Samantha leaves us with a quote "I met some of the coolest people while in JCL and I miss the fieldtrips and conventions a ton...that was part of my favorite things in high school." (July 2002)

 • 1999-2000 MJCL 2nd Vice-President, Leanne Walsh is a graduate of Tewksbury Memorial High School. She will be in her junior year this fall at Assumption College as a Classics major with a concentration in Secondary Education. Leanne is the Vice-President of the Classics Club for this upcoming year at Assumption. She also will be serving as the Hyparchos (Vice-President) of Eta Omicron, the brand-new chapter of Eta Sigma Phi, the National Classics Honor Society. In addition to working with the Classics at Assumption, Leanne is a member of the NSCL and MASCL. She has pursued her love for Classical Humanities by studying abroad this past fall semester through a unique program at Assumption which focuses its studies on the western foundations of civilization. She is a Tomorrow's Teachers Scholarship recipient, hoping to bring her love of Latin and the Classical Humanities to young minds willing to explore. Some of her other activities at Assumption include displaying her musical talents, both vocally and instrumentally, and working within Campus Ministery. (July 2002)

 •2000-2001 MJCL Parliamentarian, Bunty Thakkar is a graduate of Wakefield HS. He is currently a freshman at University of New Hampshire. In continuing with the dance team, he is on the UNH Dance company and is already rehersing for a show which will take place in April. (October 2001)

 •1999-2000 MJCL Technical Coordinator, also 1998-1999 MJCL Second Vice President, Dan Relihan is a graduate of Wakefield HS. He is going into his sophomore year at MIT. Dan is majoring in electrical engineering/computer science and also attempting to minor in economics. During the year, he worked on a project, which he helped start to fix old MIT computers and to give them to the local Cambridge public schools. During the summer, Dan is interning at General Dynamics Communication Systems on a project for the Army. (June 2001)

 •1996-1997 MJCL President, also 1995-1996 Publications Editor, John Flibotte is a graduate of Boston College HS. He is currently finishing his last semester at Harvard and will be graduating in June with a degree in Biology. After graduation John will be doing clinical research at Massachusetts General Hospital for two years and then applying to medical school. (May 2001)

 •1997-1998 NJCL Secretary, also 1997 MJCL Second VP, Rosaline Valcimond is a graduate of Boston Latin Academy. Rosaline is a junior at UMass Amherst. Rosaline is double majoring in Legal Studies and Social Thought and Political Economy. She is currently in the process of preparing for her LSAT and other law school related things. (April 2001)

 •1997-1998 MJCL President, Matthew B. Harrison is a graduate of Longmeadow HS. He cofounded Longmeadow's Latin Club and established the toga parade event at the annual MJCL State Convention. Matthew is a junior at UMASS Amherst studying political science and legal studies with dual minors in philosophy and film. He is currently working for WMAS radio in Springfield, TALKERS Magazine - a trade publication for talk radio. He also publishes a webmagazine for and by college students (www.playtimestuff.com).  •1999-2000 MJCL President, also 1998-1999 MJCL Historian, Liz Schell is a graduate of Boston Latin Academy and the first president BLA ever had. Liz is a freshman at Boston University majoring in film and working on various short and feature-length films for experience. She is currently casting for "Olive Greene", a feature-length film to be shot in the summer. (March 2001)
