Like everyone else, I like a good laugh now and then, but since (due to Canada's severe restrictions on the ownership of cattle prods, pepper spray, tear gas, and other toys) I can't make my own fun, I rely on others to amuse me. Here's a few I rely on more than most (in no particular order except that the naughty/disgusting ones are at the bottom):
Note: I periodically take out a few that seem to be more-or-less dead. Enjoy.
- Sluggy Freelance - worship the comic. (Daily)
- User Friendly (Daily)
- Penny Arcade, where the first one's always free (?) (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday)
- Goats (any strip with a satanic chicken can't be all bad)
- Kevin and Kell, AKA HerdThinners, Inc. (Daily)
- The Suburban Jungle, similar to HerdThinners in that the characters are all anthropomorphized animals. (Usually MWF. Usually.)
- Fight, cast or evade is another comic in this vein, and only a few months old. (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
- Yet another Furry strip, and proud of it, is Gene Catlow, which just finished its first storyline. (MWF)
- More furry strips!! Check out Newshounds (weekdays) and Badly Drawn Kitties (also weekdays - warning, adult themes!)
- After Y2K - post-millennial wierdness, but currently on an irregular schedule (supposed to be weekly on Mondays, currently every few months). While there, also check out The Joy of Tech, updated Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
- Nukees, a story about graduate students in nuclear engineering... (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
- Deathworld, a silly biweekly (Mondays and Thursdays) comic strip, now at a new home!
- GPF Comics (Daily)
- Dilbert, which also links to many other syndicated strips, if you're into that type of thing. (Daily)
- UComics is another site with syndicated strips, including old Calvin and Hobbes! (daily)
- Helen, Sweetheart of the Internet, is about a bright, beautiful woman working in technology. Older strips can be found here. That first link also takes you to some other syndicated strips, including Shoe. (Daily)
- College Room-mates From Hell is sufficiently bizarre to warrant a look - and the title pretty much accurately describes the subject matter. (Weekdays, sometimes on weekends)
- Hound's Home, which used to be updated "every freakin' day", but is somewhat less frequent now... (Supposed to be weekly, but highly irregular right now)
- You might also want to look at Polymer City (Updated Tuesdays and Fridays). NOTE This URL changed due to a domain hijacking by a not-very-nice person.
- Why not check out WIGU (weekdays)? In the words of the creator, "Wigu is this story comic about a little boy and his weird family and his friend who is a Space Potato and his friend who is a Space Pony."
- sinfest can be quite Politically Incorrect at times, but it's well drawn, and usually funny. (Supposed to be daily, but he's been slipping lately)
- Supermegatopia is an anime-style comic, published irregularly. Cartoon nipples, what fun! (Weekly - Mondays)
- Angst Technology can be pretty cool at times. (Mondays, and also check out Sorry, We're Open by the same artist on Fridays)
- PvP, a cartoon about life at a Computer Gaming Magazine, is also cute. (Daily, usually updates later in the day)
- Doonesbury, a classic of American political humour. Even if you don't always agree with it (and I don't always), it can be a compelling story. (Daily)
- Day By Day has been referred to as the "anti-Doonesbury", and the title sort of fits. Kinda. (Daily)
- Megatokyo is in an Anime style that's kind of neat, even if the main protagonists are a pair of doofuses. Or is the plural of doofus doofi? (MWF)
- Little Gamers is rude, crude, and sort of funny, not to mention back again. (Daily)
- Help Desk pretty much confirms your suspicions about what really goes on at the help desk of a big software company... (Mostly on weekdays) While you're there, also check out Techsetters (somewhat less than weekly).
- Real Life - not much to say, it's kinda cute. (most weekdays)
- Schlock Mercenary is the story of some space-faring mercenaries. Sufficiently weird to warrant a look. (daily)
- Bob the Angry Flower is worth a look. (Fridays, usually)
- Diesel Sweeties is just wierd, but the art style is kinda kewl in a Commodore 64-sort of way. (Weekdays)
- Exploitation Now is one of those comics where you might as well start reading from the first comic, just to try to make sense of it all. (MWF) Seems to be over, but I'll leave it up for a while... Hey, he started a new one called Errant Story! (MWF)
- Lost and Found is a comic about a private detective and his dog who solve very unusual cases. Like, say, vampiric cats?(Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and sometimes on weekends). Yep, he's back from hiatus.
- Ozy and Millie is a cute cartoon about some kids who happen to be real animals. (Daily)
- Superosity. What can I say? Read it. (daily) He's also now co-authoring another strip, called Sore Thumbs, which is pretty odd (MWF).
- Rockwood, the story of life on a space station. (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
- Nodwick.com is the home of Nodwick (which gamer geeks may remember from Dragon and/or Dungeon magazines), a hapless adventurer. This also has a link to Dork Tower on the front page, which gamers may also want to check out. (Nodwick updates Thursdays, Dork Tower a couple of times a week)
- Adventurers is a wierd little comic about life inside an adventure game (like Zelda or something). (T-Th-Sa) The author also now draws Anti-hero For Hire, which just got started and is a little hard to quantify (MWF).
- The Wandering Ones is a post-apocalyptic neo-native comic, which may actually teach you a thing or two about tracking animals. (Monday to Friday, colour comic sometimes on Friday)
- Voices in my hand is a new comic about some paranormal investigators. Or something like that. (Mondays)
- Checkerboard Nightmare tries too hard, but manages to parody itself successfully. (MWF)
- D+pad claims to be the last word in video game store comics. Since I don't know of any other video game store comics, I guess they're right. (Sporadic)
- Shaw Island is my new favourite - freakin' hilarious. (M-Th - at a new address!)
- Outsider is a new sci-fi comic slowly taking shape. Looks interesting, hope the author keeps it up. (Whenever they get to it, I guess... )
- Bunny Extreme is a bizarre comic from Israel about a demon working PR for Microsoft - or something like that. The author seems to almost be a little too pro-Microsoft for my taste, but that may be satire (I can never tell). (Occasionally)
- Chopping Block is the story of a serial killer. Really. (MWF)
- Poisoned Minds can be pretty... well, bad. (Monday and Friday)
- Mac Hall - I can't believe I haven't been mentioning this one. Pretty funny (supposed to be on M&F).
- Under Power is another new one, just getting its "sea legs". Pretty violent. (Weekly? A few times a week? Monthly? All of the above?)
- Clan Bob, AKA The Life Of Riley is kinda kewl. (MWF - also has alternate comics on T&Th)
- Commander Kitty is a cutie. Check it out. ("Every three or four days" according to the artist - back from hiatus, but still uneven in schedule)
- Under the Lemon Tree was running a story in the "Schlock Mercenary" (see above) universe. Worth a look, even though I may not agree with the author about religion. But on the other hand, who do I agree with? (Weekly or biweekly right now, when he's not having scanner trouble)
- Angels 2200 is an interesting story of an all-female fighter squadron in the year 2200. (MF, with extra stuff on W)
- The Whiteboard, which comes from Alaska (believe it or don't) is the story of a bear who runs his own paintball shop. (MWF)
- Freefall is the story of a very dishonest alien who owns a spaceship, a very honest sentient anthropomorphic wolf who is his engineer, and a robot who lifts things. (MWF)
- Just Another Vice is somewhat amateurish, both in the art and the topics, but may yet bloom into something worth watching. Infrequently updated of late.
- Spooner is a pretty nifty, if rather pedestrian, comic about a couple of newlyweds. Looks like it might be syndicated. Slow to load, though. (Daily?)
- Striptease Comic is yet another university life comic, with lesbians (oh, my), but no nudity. Weekdays?
- If you think you are a loser, check out Soap On A Rope to make yourself feel better. (M-F)
- Check out Digital War - currently running a Lord Of The Rings parody involving an AOL (AKA AOHell) disk. (A couple of times a week, more or less)
- Another amusing one is Cascade Failure. (Weekly - from Denmark?)
- Another space-based one is A Miracle of Science, which looks to be about a cop who tracks down mad scientists in the not-TOO-distant future. Apparently mad-scientism (?) is a mental disorder in the future, and can be treated with pills... (Mondays and Thursdays, I think...)
- Check out Her!, AKA Girl Vs. Pig. Funny, odd, sometimes macabre.... (Weekly)
- And then there's Radioactive Panda (Mondays and Fridays?), which appears to be about a Frankenstein-type mad scientist and his friends/assistants/creations/?????. Well drawn, just getting started.
- I just found Queen Of Wands. Looks pretty good. (MWF)
- For anthropomorphic demon-hunting inquisition goodness, I always turn to Exterminatus Now! (Fridays)
- I used to read this comic strip called Bobbins, but the author moved on. Turns out he moved on to Scary-Go-Round, which is sort of a Gen-X Scooby-Doo thing (minus the dog) (Scooby Doo is a registered trademark of somebody or other, not me. Please don't sue. Thanks!). (Monday to Friday)
..............Comics below this line are not for kids - nipple alert!...........
- Sex and Violence is just getting started, but lives up to the "violence" side of the promise, anyway... (Occasionally frequently updated - nothing for a few weeks, then a whole bunch).
- The Least I Could Do is ... well, it is. And it's 6 days a week (Mon-Sat), too!
