One of two loggerhead turtles kept together at Mote. According to the sign, they are named Shelly and Montego. Neither responded well to calls, so I never did figure out which one this is.

A turtle housed with the manatees. I don't recall what type it is. Do your own research.

One of two manatees housed together (with their turtle companion).

College Hall at New College, from the front, and which was the former home of Charles Ringling (of Ringling Brothers/Barnum and Bailey Circus fame). Through the arches on the left, in the distance, is Sarasota Bay.

Another shot of College Hall, from the back. From this perspective, to the right is Ca D'Zan (see below). From where I stood to take this, Sarasota Bay was perhaps five feet behind me.

Ca D'Zan, mansion of John Ringling (brother of Charles), adjacent to the New College campus. This was taken from the same location as the above picture of College Hall. Note the proximity of the New College campus to Sarasota Bay. Ca D'zan is now a part of the overall Ringling Museum of Art complex, which is affiliated not with New College but with Florida State University.

A banyan tree on the campus of New College.

Billy the Blowfish, Poisonous Murderer of the Sea (coming soon to a children's book near you!).
