Mata Devi Math Order of the Divine Mother |

About Mata Devi | |||||||
The term Mata Devi means Divine Mother in Sankrit. The feminine divine and the masculine divine are both represented in Hinduism. Both are manifestations of Brahman, the Absolute Truth, Ultimate Reality, Supreme Consciousness, et cetera. Brahman is seperated between Nirguna and Saguna. Nirguna means without attributes, it is the part of the divine that is beyond everything. Saguna means with attributes, this is the divine manifesting itself into form. From Brahman the universe emerged. The Divine Mother is a great representation of this occuring since mothers, of course, give birth to children and in a metaphorical sense that is the symbolism being repsented with the conecpt of the Divine Mother. Hinduism has many representations of the Divine Mother and so do many other religions, even if they do not fully acknowledge this fact. The primary Hindu Devis are Kali, Shakti, Parvati, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Annapurana, and Durga. On this page is a Buddhist representation of the Divine Mother called Green Tara. |
