Ani Difranco has always been one of the few folk singers I can stomach, what's more, I thoroughly enjoy her. Despite some possible loss of integrity, I am still a fan. Her socially and politically oriented songs are so in line with many of my own views that I've found myself giggling on first listens. Ani doesn't seem to have an official page, but this one is the best I've encountered. |
How could I every forget Trenty-pooh? |
I've been a fan of Primus since the moment I first heard them on a friend's mixtape longer ago than I would care to admit. A savvy little band with more technical skill than most anyone out there right now. Les' bass playing is something more than stunning (even better than mine) and he is in good company. Primus is very 'live.' I've been to most Primus concerst in my area over the years, every blessed one worth the over-priced ticket cost. Bastards, every last one. |
Nine Inch Nails has always let me know that it's ok to be unhappy - in fact, it might be encouraged. Plenty of angst to go around here. Reznor has always teetered between experimental and poppy. He seems to have always 'succeeded' in this dangerous pursuit. Appealing to the masses while simultaneously forging a new direction for much of the musical world. He is very active with his record label, Nothing Records, and has brought some very good and very bad bands to life by this means. His our the songs for self-hatred, unhealthy relationships, disillusionment, and let's not forget: sex. These profound yet trite themes in his music appeal to humanity in much the same way Tori Amos does....maybe they should hook up. |
Wow. Tori Amos is certainly one of the most poignant song writers of our time. Though her lyrics might sometimes be allusive, you always walk away from a song feeling like you 'get it.' And what you get is always something powerful and strangely identifiable. She has tapped into an eerie, collective unscious-esque world simply by telling the stories of her life. And telling them to the accompaniment of her adept hands on the keys of her Bosendorfer. |
"KMFDM, better than the rest..." Actually, KMFDM is one of the 'worst' bands of which I claim to be a fan. Musically not what I would call one of the greats, but then again, industrial music really shouldn't be considered on a 'musical' scheme. KMFDM is driving and catchy, which makes them a great industrial band. They are also blatantly extreme-left, just like me, which makes them good. RIP THE SYSTEM! |
What can I even say here? His genius made so much more possible. The Well-Tempered Clavier changed how the instrument would be palyed forever. Truly an inspiration without parallel. |
