We are Lindsay Akers, Pam Veenkant and Josh Anders.  We are all secondary mathematics education majors at Western Michigan University.

It may seem strange that we are writing a guide for first year teachers, even though none of us has been teachers as of yet, however we feel that we have been educated very well in our many years here at Western, and are capable of writing a very well planned and an extremely informative management plan.

This particular management plan will be based for a high school mathematics classroom, but could certainly be edited slightly for the use in a middle school mathematics classroom.  We do not claim that this is the best possible management philosophy, but we feel that it could be and will be very helpful to any first year mathematics teacher who is looking for help.  We hope that you enjoy it and your new life as a teacher of reform mathematics.

"No other intervention can make the difference that a knowledgeable, skillful teacher can make in the learning process."
(National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, 1998)
This web page is designed to help first year mathematics teachers with reformed math and developing a classroom management plan that enhances this new style of teaching mathematics.  The goal of this page is to give new teachers of reform math an idea of what the standard management styles are and how classroom management influences the learning of mathematics. We hope that it will be helpful for you.
