Ask the Weaver
(Inspired by the Tewa Indian poem "Song of the Sky Loom")
Gentle spirit looking to be born
Watch the sunrise brighten in the sky,
Empty is your tapestry at dawn
Mix your yarns, and fling the colors high,
You shall not reach! the end too soon
Ask the weaver with her loom.Mother Earth so solid for a base
Fringe it with the warm spring rain of tears,
Border with the standing rainbow "Hope"
Weave your pattern upward through the years,
You shall not reach the end too soon
Ask the weaver with her loom. From the past the wind blows other yarns
Older joys and sorrows take their part,
Weave anew the tapestry each round
Dim the lights, the play's about to start,
A wail, a dance, how goes the tune?
Ask the weaver with her loom,
We shall not reach the end too soon
Ask the weaver with her loom.©2003 Maria Larson
