Don't Mind the Weather

 

Starting up the road with a flat-footed stagger
Walking upright is such a blast,
Mommy and Daddy beaming proudly
Looking at the future running past.
Hey, Red Rover, won't you cross over
Then I'll catch you and you'll be "it",
Kick the can and run like the devil
Only thing that's hard to do is just sit.

Happy in the rain and snow and sunshine
Dirty hands and a rip in your pants,
All that matters is to live in the moment,
All that matters is to do the dance.
Don't mind the weather, you can't change it
Don't mind the weather, it's passing through,
Like death and taxes it's always with us
Don't mind the weather, it won't mind you.

Dancing up the road kind of soft and swoony
Humming out loud like a turtle dove,
Loony-tuney, Juney-moony
Sounds like somebody's in love.
Hand in hand and heel and toe-ing
Used to be so fancy-free
Whirling, twirling, boy and girl-ing
Two hearts beating in harmony.

Up ahead there's a storm cloud rising
Thunder, wind, and lightning too,
Blown off course or just a little detour
All depends on your point of view.
And don't mind the weather, you can't change it
Don't mind the weather, it's passing through,
Like death and taxes it's always with us
Don't mind the weather, it won't mind you.

Trudging up the road and your knees are aching
All that footwork just a memory,
But kick up your heels and step it lively
Teach those young sprouts a thing or three.
Heel and toe and you've still got it
Twinkle in your eye, you ain't done yet,
Remembering the joys of the journey
Bad times, good times you can't forget.

Up ahead there's a blaze of glory
One star rising in the west,
Maybe it's time to finish up the journey
Dance with the ones you love the best.
