Chapter Two: Meet the Neighbors
Jeff had decided to go out into
his garage and take his dirtbike out. Liger, ever being the faithful
friend, decided to go outside. Now, Jeff was quite unsure about that.
Liger did have a tendency to just run everywhere, and his new neighbor
might not like it. Come to think of it, he didn't know much about
his new neighbor. He saw her the day he came home, but he didn't
see her after that.
Jeff decided not to think any longer on it, and
he and Liger were going to enjoy their afternoon. Jeff went out into
his backyard, and looked across the road. His neighbor had two beautiful
quarter horses in the pasture, grazing. Liger saw the horses, and
his little doggy mind told him to go run. However, Liger was no dummy
dog. He waited until Jeff had gone into his motocross state of mind,
and Liger bounded down the road to the new house.
Sure enough, at the house, the neighbor was sitting
on the porch steps, drinking a glass of lemonade, and reading a magazine.
Liger looked at her, and slowly walked up to her, turning on his doggy
charm, by using cute little puppy dog eyes, wagging tail, and wagging tongue.
The woman looked up from her reading, and saw the
dog. She smiled a bit.
"Hello, little one. Where did you come from?"
she said, smiling and putting out a hand so he could get her scent.
Liger walked right over to her and let her pet him.
"Oh, now aren't you friendly?" she said, scratching
behind his ears.
Meanwhile, Jeff stopped his bike and looked about
for his dog. Sure enough, he ran off. But where? Jeff
had an inkling that he was going to meet his new neighbor sooner than expected.
Jeff ran back into the house and threw on a clean
shirt, and a clean pair of pants. He grabbed his keys, and Liger's
leash, and started down the road. He got to the neighbor's house,
and saw his dog, laying on the ground as the redhaired woman was scratching
his dog's belly. His annoyance was suddenly melted as he saw that
sight.
"Do you have a name, pup?" she asked the dog.
"Liger." Jeff said.
The woman looked up, and looked at Jeff. Jeff
smiled at her, and looked at his dog. Her face was as beautiful as
her body was; she had deep-set emerald eyes, with a head of long, red hair.
"Liger, eh? Well, such a nice name for a sweet
dog." She said, as she got up and walked toward Jeff. She was a bit
taken aback by this man with green and blue hair, but his eyes were a striking
green. "It's okay, he wasn't bothering me. It was actually kind of
sweet. He's been my welcoming committee."
Jeff smiled a bit. "New here?" he asked
"That obvious?" she replied, with an eyebrow raised.
"Well, the accent is a dead giveaway." Jeff said
"New York City?" he said, fancying a guess as to where she was from.
"Nope, Boston." she answered him
"Wow, Boston. That's a long way from Cameron,
North Carolina." Jeff said. "What brings a beautiful girl like you here
from a place like Boston?"
"I was hired to be a fourth grade teacher at the
elementary school here." she matter of factly stated.
"Ah, a teacher. That's different." Jeff said,
"Oh, forgive me for not introducing myself. I'm Jeff Hardy.
I live up the road from you." he said, putting his hand forward.
"Ciara Fitzgerald." she said, putting her hand forth.
"Ah, a pleasure, Ciara." Jeff said, kissing her
hand.
"Would you like to come in and see what I did with
the house?" Ciara asked him
"Sure. Would love to." Jeff answered.
He followed her in. What he saw of her he
was beginning to like already. She had a charm about her that a lot
of local girls didn't have. She had a lot that his ex-girlfriend
didn't. He wanted to ask Ciara out, but he didn't know how she would
respond. Right now, he just settled for the tour into her world.
