Peter Paul Rubens was one of the most productive Western artists of all time.  He was able to put his own intensity into his religious paintings, portraits, and landscapes.  His public benefits as a master of the greatest studio in Europe since Raphael's, landed him a spot in the public eye.  He mastered the art of using bright color, and the handling of oil paint, that is the essence of Titian art. In 1603, he made a trip to Spain and had a major impact on the development of Spanish baroque art.  The works of Thomas Gainsborough and Eugene Delacroix, along with others, demonstrate his posthumous influence on the art world. Rubens' impact was definitely immediate, international, and long lasting.
