The Cathedral of Antwerp was given a new altar, and Rubens was the most famous artist of that time, so he was given the job.  He painted Mary going to heaven on the new altar piece. This picture isn't depicted from what the Bible said.  Rubens decided to make a more lively picture of Mary going up to heaven, this picture is based on a legend. The two angels on the top are about to crown Mary with roses.  The three women at the bottom were supposedly the ones that laid her to rest.  Rubens made the woman in the middle look like his wife, Isabella Brant, she died while Rubens was completing this painting.
