I was 18 years old when I delivered "Mikey" in 1993, there were no indications of any troubles other than breech prior to his birth. At the time, medical facilities did not have much research with this type of birth defects. Have they found a "cause"? . .or is it just a statistic?

Dear Ruth, thanks so much for your email your web sight is beautiful. I have to say I'm sitting here having a good cry. I am so thankful that all has turned out well for little Matthew he is a beautiful baby. I guess I'm crying because I so hope that m sisters little boy has a chance to make it in this world. The thing that concerns me most at this moment is that we just don't have the same number of baby's been born with HLHS here and I'm wondering if our doctors will be as succesful. After recievin so many positive emails mostly from the USA I know that if Joanne didn't feel confidant she would look at traveling to the USA to give her boy a chance. Please pray that someone here is very capable at this surgery. I am a Christian myself and have bee for 10 years. Joanne and her hubby Peter aren't but I know that Joanne has been praying of late so I know a miracle or two wouldn't go astray in helping her to see that there is a God and he cares for them. They are living in a town called Lambton whic is on the East coast of Australia, they have been there since Christmas time so as yet they haven't made close friends and all their family live here so it makes for a very lonely time. The cardiologist and surgeon she saw on Friday work at a hospital i Sydney which is about 2 hours away from her home. they have said she can have her baby near home but then he will have to be air lifted to Sydney so she has a lot of choices to make. She is the kind of woman though that wants to make an informed deciss on and she puts her foot down with the doctors as she wants to get as much information as possible. At the moment they don't have a home pc so I have been forwarding all mail onto her and her husband brings home a lap top at night so that she can read th m. I think they are hoping to buy a computer over the week-end so that she can do more searching herself. Up till now I have been her research assistant. She has also still been working which has left little time to do much investigating herself but sh hopes to finish this week. She is exhausted, worried, frightened and more. I guess at first we thought maybe it would have been kinder not to know all this until closer to the birth, but as we have gone along I feel that God has given us this time to m ke the best choices possible ones which could save my little nephews life. Please please pray for us that we get the best possible doctors etc. and that God will help mend my little nephews heart. Thanks so much for your web sight. Luv Aunty Deb.

Benjamin is an extremely active 9 (9 1/3 almost...hey every month counts!!!) year old boy. He loves sports and does well in school. I have met Dr. Norwood and Judy Ruley when we were all at CHOP. He was diagnosed at 6 days(3 days out of the hospital) when he wouldn't eat...slept the day away. When Ben had his 1 st surgery at CHOP Dr.Norwood was out of town .(in Poland to be exact) r. Jacobs did his surgery and Ben was out of the hospital in 8 days. Recovery from the Hemi Fontan was 6 days and the Fontan (fenestrated version) was 3 weeks ...although almost the whole last week was trying to discover why he was having a high fever a d after many blood tests etc. they looked in his ears and found that both ears were infected. One dose of antibiotics and the fever went away!!! Well it has been 7 1/2 years now and he doesn't remember or have any pain.

My baby hasn't had surgery yet. The doctors say in a month or two they want to operate. I'm sooooo scared that I cry and stress out everyday. He is my only child and my first child. I want to get a second opinion but I don't have the funds to go to anothe hospital. I would rather go to loma linda Hospital but I don't have the money for it. and that's why I'm scared for my baby. I don't know If I can trust Kaiser. The doctor says that my baby has severe tetralogy but he doesn't look severe. and if my baby oes have this defect I would rather have him be a little older before he has anything done. That's why I need a second opinion.If you can help me in any way I would be forever grateful.Even if you can direct me to a support group who had babies with the ame defect as my baby. Thank-you....
