Goreme

	Goreme is located in central Turkey and is the capital of Cappadocia.  Cappadocia is unlike any other place in the world.  It began to be shaped some 10 million years ago, and the landscape of Cappadocia is made up of volcanic lava and ash.  This produced a soft rock called tufa.  This tufa has been molded into surrealistic landscapes for the last few million years and gives an other-worldly effect.  Parts of Star Wars were actually filmed here for just this reason.  The malleability of the soft rock also caused many Turks to settle here in caves, often to escape religious or political persecution. They could hide here and did for thousands of years.  Visiting Cappadocia was definitely one of the most interesting things I did in Turkey.  Looking at these amazing landscapes you are just in awe that it's weathering that has shaped things like the chimneys and not man.
