Welcome to the first online list of Captain Haddock’s vocabulary of insults. I compiled this list in 1997 from the official (ie no Alph-Art, Lake of Sharks, etc) English-language editions of Hergé’s Adventures of Tintin. The reason? I had heard of other Tintinophiles doing the same thing throughout the world yet hadn’t seen a complete list myself, so I created my own.

Please note that when reading these following insults, you may be offended, although not for the reasons you'd expect. Tintin books were written over many years, and hence some of the following "insults" may appear dated in so far as political correctness is concerned. Some of the following words, such as "Aborigines" and "Polynesian", are not what people would often use as insults. This is not to say that Hergé was racist in any way; he merely chose unusual and often exotic words that could fill the angry mouth of an often inebriated old sea-dog clutching for satisfaction. Part of the humour of these Haddock insults is how unlike they are to anything else an angry man would shout. To this day I have never heard anyone use "Bashibazouk" without reference to Tintin, so please don't take this list to heart. The following words have been included in this "insult vocabulary" for academic or freak purposes, depending on your level of honesty.
