Canada's most famous midget wrestler is, undoubtedly, the great Little
Beaver who was born Lionel Giroux in 1928 in St. Jerome, Quebec Canada.
Little Beaver began his wrestling career in 1950 at the age of fifteen
and put midget wrestling on the map alongside the legendary Sky Low Low.
The two would travel across Canada, and then the world, putting on comedic
matches that stole the show. Little Beaver even won the Midget Wrestler
of the Year Award in 1973 as issued by Pro Wrestling Illustrated Magazine.
Most contemporary fans remember Little Beaver best for his appearance at
Wrestlemania III in front of 93,173 fans in the Silverdome in Pontiac Michigan
on the undercard of Hogan-Andre. Little Beaver teamed up with the Haiti
Kid and Hillbilly Jim against Kong Kong Bundy, Lord Littlebrook and Little
Tokyo and won via disqualification when Bundy attacked Beaver, slamming
him and hitting his trademark elbow smash. The attack from Bundy wasn't
just brutal in kayfabe but in real life and the injuries sustained by Little
Beaver forced him to retire from professional wrestling, making his Wrestlemania
III appearance his farewell match.
Little Beaver passed away
in December of 1995 due to complications stemming from emphysema. His memory,
however, lives on. In 2003 he was inducted into the Professional Wrestling
Hall of Fame and we welcome him now, as well, to the UWOW Hall of Fame.
Little Beaver would steal the show and he stole the hearts of wrestling
fans all around the world and we thank him for his contributions to the
sport of kings. |
