Steve Borden was born in 1959 and debuted in 1985 as part of Powerteam USA, a group of body-builders, under the name Flash Borden. When that team broke up, Borden joined the Universal Wrestling Federation to team with a young Ultimate Warrior in a tag team known as the Blade Runners and Borden adopted the name Sting while the Warrior was known as Rock.

Sting joined forces with Eddie Gilbert, Missy Hyatt and Rick Stiener in hell factions before turning face after a match against Terry Taylor and began working with Chris Adams against the rule breakers. When the UWF was purchased by Jim Crocket Promotions in 1987, Sting continued to rise and took on the NWA World Champion Ric Flair at Clash of the Champions in 1988, wrestling to a time limit draw. This made Sting a household name as he feuded with the Horsemen, teaming with Dusty Rhodes, Magnum TA and others. He won his first title in the NWA by defeating Mike Rotundo for the NWA Television Title in 1989, but lost it to the Great Muta and continued the feud from there. When Muta attacked Ric Flair after the famous "I Quit Match" that saw Funk, Muta's fellow stable-mate under Gary Hart, turn face, Sting came to the rescue of both men and would end up joining Ric Flair, Arn Anderson and Ole Anderson in a fan favourite version of the Horsemen.

Sting was thrown out of the Horsemen after demanding a title shot against Flair. An injury stopped the feud in its tracks, but Sting returned to forge the Dudes with Attitudes to feud with the Horsemen. Sting beat Flair for the NWA World Title for the first time at the 1990 Great American Bash and defended against Lex Luger and Sid Vicious. Flair regained the title in January of 1991, but Sting and Luger went on to have a classic tag battle with the Steiner Brothers at SUperbrawl of 1991. At the end of 1991, Sting began feuding with Paul E. Dangerously's Dangerous Alliance, including Ravishing Rick Rude, Madusa, Bobby Eaton and Stunning Steve Austin. Sting became the WCW World Champion, defeating Luger at Superbrawl II in February of 1992 and captained Rick Steamboat, Dustin Rhodes, Barry Windham and Nikita Koloff to defeat the Dangerous Alliance in a War Games Match in May. Sting would defend the gold against Vader in one of his greatest rivalries, losing the gold to Vader at the Great American Bash in July. Sting would begin feuding with Jake Roberts, winning a Goal Miner's Glove Match at Halloween Havoc 1992. Sting would defeat Vader in March of 1993 in London England, but lost it back 6 days later in Dublin Ireland.

Sting brought in Davey Boy Smith as his partner to battle Vader and new partner Sid Vicious. When Sid left, Vader and Rick Rude began a partnership to feud with Sting and Davey Boy, who would be replaced in the angle by the returning Ric Flair. Sting won the NWA World Title (called the WCW International World Title) in a match against Vader before unifying that belt with the WCW World Championship belt held by Ric Flair. During this bout, Flair turned heel and took Sherri Martel as his manager and Hulk Hogan got involved, pushing Sting out of the WCW spotlight.

Sting would help Hogan feud with the Horsemen and the Dungeon of Doom before teaming with Lex Luger to win the WCW World Tag Team Titles from Harlem Heat, but had unsuccessful attempts to win the WCW Title from the Giant in 1996. When the NWO debuted, Sting, Randy Savage and Lex Luger lead the charge against Hall and Nash, and later Hulk Hogan. Prior to War Games in 1996, an imposter Sting attacked members of WCW and joined with the NWO. The real Sting was offended that the WCW fans and fellow wrestlers thought him to be a turn-coat and went into the rafters, donning black and white and carrying a baseball bat.

Sting's return was held off for 18 months as it was teased that sting would join the NWO or join WCW but in the end, Sting returned to feud with Hulk Hogan, beginning by attacking the NWO at Uncensored 1997. Sting refused to wrestle until he got Hulk Hogan one on one for the WCW World Title. Sting finally got the match and defeated Hulk Hogan for the WCW Title at Starrcade 1997. WCW Commissioner JJ Dillon held up the title leading to a re-match with Hogan at Superbrawl, which Sting won with help from Randy Savage. One month later, Savage would defeat Sting with help from Kevin Nash. Sting would later join Nash in the Wolfpack with Lex Luger, Nash and Konnan. Sting regained the WCW World Title in a match against Hulk Hogan. In 2000, Sting feuded with Vampiro, Scott Steiner and Lex Luger and even enjoyed one more run as a heel WCW World Champion with Luger and Elizabeth at his side. Sting retired when WCW shut down, wrestling the final Nitro match ever in a victory over Ric Flair.

Sting would return in 2002 to tour Europe with the WWA and lost to Lex Luger in a WWA Heavyweight Title match. He would take the title from Luger and defend against Rick Steiner, Shane Douglas and then lost the title in a unification bout to NWA World Champion Jeff Jarrett in 2003. Sting returned to American wrestling full time to join TNA on a limited basis, but ended up staying on full time to become NWA World Champion defeating Jeff Jarrett after months of hype at Bound for Glory 2006. He would lose the title to the monster Abyss but Sting remains a pillar of TNA wrestling and is gearing up to face Kurt Angle. Sting was the most popular wrestler in WCW and held the company up through its toughest ordeals. He set trends in teh 1980s and put on some of the very best wrestling matches and continues to do so. While his career is far from over, there is little doubt that Sting belongs here in the UWOW Hall of Fame.
