Biography
A Short Bio (a composite of facts and short observations by friends / colleagues)

Matt is a musician from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, currently / temporarily based in Ottawa, who is mostly known as a guitar player and singer. His main project is the noise-pop band Cone Five, although he has also worked with many other musicians and bands on a variety of instruments. Since high school he has been actively involved in the Winnipeg indie underground and has worked hard to promote obscure, underdog musicians like himself. His songs are memorable, like "papercuts in the brain". He has fallen in love twice and has learned nothing. Matt's solo material is inspired by the darker and stranger strains of "singer-songwriter" or folk music - Michael Gira, Johhny Cash, Neko Case, Lou Reed, Neil Young, Chan Marshall, Syd Barrett, etc. Generally, he's a nice guy - if you are a girl taking in a show and a drunk is harrassing you, Matt will pretend to be your boyfriend so that he will leave you alone. Also, if you're in a jam, Matt will boost your car and then record noise jams with you. His albums (both with Cone Five and solo) have limited or DIY distribution, but they have charted nationally on the Earshot campus top 200 and the Chartattack top 50. His drummers never get tired of looking at his ass. Matt loves surf rock and monster movies, a winning combination.
