Discography
you can check out Matt's work on the following releases (not always easy to find!)
2004
- "Half-breaking" - solo album which rounds out the anti-folk trilogy on a confusingly abstract note. Some of the strongest of my solo material: makes the girls weep and the boys shuffle their feet in an ashamed fashion.
- "Not a cloud in the sky" - solo
outing with an approach which is at once more varied and contemplative. Interesting accompaniment featuring a variety of Winnipeg scenesters, some of whom hadn't worked with me prior to this recording.
- The Horribly Awfuls, "We Fight like the Crips and Bloods"
. 7-song masterwork spearheaded by Gareth Williams, featuring Matt on drums, backing vocals, and a wee bit of guitar. Available through Conifera Records.
2003
-
"I hope you die alone" - solo album with minimal accompaniment from a few friends. Limited run CD-R, lo-fi packaging, given away for free or on a donation-only basis. Charted locally on CJUM / nationally on Earshot.
-
Dismal Failure Records, "Compilation 2003". Distributed through the Conifera Records CD-R archive (for some reason). Matt appears on various tracks under a number of pseudonyms, and he also drew the picture on the front cover.
-
The Horribly Awfuls, "Spring has Sprung" EP. Limited run CD-R, given away for free. Amazing country/punk album written by Gareth Williams, recorded in a freezing warehouse in Chinatown. Matt plays bass on four songs and plays electric guitar on another.
-
Cone Five, "Fond Of". CD distributed locally by Conifera Records. Charted nationally (briefly - for only two weeks) on the Earshot and Chart Attack college radio play charts. Locally, the album enjoyed a strong stay on both campus stations. It even debuted at #1 at CKUW! A "bombastic" pop album.

2002

-
Conifera Records, "Friends of the Forest" CD compilation. Track 2 is "Cowgrrrls" by Cone Five.
-
The Rose Maylies, "How to Date Boys". Insane, noisy 13-song EP which clocks in at a mere 14 minutes. Extremely limited run CD-R, no artwork.

2001

-
Cone Five, "Picture of Wheat". Limited run CD-R, lo-fi packaging. Recorded live to DAT. Probably Cone Five's most energetic offering. Charted on Winnipeg campus radio for several weeks.
-
Cone Five, "De-ionized Water". Limited run CD-R, lo-fi packaging. Super-depressing with slick studio production. Charted on Winnipeg campus radio for several weeks.

1999

-
Cone Five, "Songs for Dust". Limited run CD-R, lo-fi packaging. Recorded in McVeigh's basement on digital 8-track without a full band (Matt takes over some of the drumming and programming duties as a result).

1998

-
Scorched Earth Policy, "It's a Monkey!". Extremely limited run cassette tape, lo-fi packaging. Recorded live to 4-track in Workman's basement, near flawless heavy metal execution. Sold five copies at "The Cellar", a local record store.

1997

-
Crotch Rocket, "Low-fi just got lower!". Ridiculously limited run cassette tape, packaging irrelevant. Chimp-rock / noise art / collage /  masterpiece from the bowels of hell.
-
Scorched Earth Policy, "S.E.P.". Limited run cassette tape, lo-fi packaging. Recorded in mono, plays in mono too! Ill-advised art-punk flailings of a group of obnoxious teenagers.
