My advice for the new fellow...
...Create a work/life balance.  Work hard to develop hobbies and activities that are independent from Hillel.

...Don't be afraid to ask questions, a lot of questions.  There is a lot to be learned regarding how everything functions here in Madison and at Hillel.

...Challenge the students.  Don't hand everything to them on a silver platter.

...Challenge yourself.  Think of new ideas and challenge the norm.

...Figure out your audience as quickly as possible.  It will be different for every group of target students you work with.

...Ask students where they want to see their respective student groups and Hillel as a whole at the end of the semester -- at the end of the year.

...Utlizlize the resources of Hillel International, the Center for Jewish Engagement, the other JCSCs and UW Hillel.

...Be flexible.  Programs will not always go according to plan.

...Take advantage of this opportunity.  You are living in a new place for a year.  Soak up the environment.  Take time to travel.
